Celebrate Star Wars Day with the launch of limited edition Baby Yoda/Grogu library cards! Baby Yoda library cards are just like normal library cards; they open up a galaxy of adventures through the library’s books, DVDs, digital materials, audios, kits, and more. Anyone who signs up for a library card can select the limited edition card or current OCPL card holders can replace their old card with a new Baby Yoda card for free (normally a $2 fee). These cards will launch on Wednesday, May the Fourth (be with you), and be available until supplies run out. Don’t forget to celebrate your new card by taking pictures in selfie stations available at the Salem, Seneca, and Westminster branches. As always, library cards are free for anyone who works, lives, or owns property in Oconee County. For further information, contact the library at 864-364-5760.
As we enter the next phase of the response to COVID-19, it is still the goal of DHEC and other health agencies to reduce the spread of the virus by partnering with members of the community to promote preventative health behaviors and increase accessibility to testing and vaccination. To that end, DHEC is conducting a survey to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine confidence. The goal of the survey is to better our understanding of the needs of the community and any perceived barriers preventing uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine. To participate, use the link below:
The Westminster Branch Library and the Oconee History Museum are excited to announce the grand opening of the Betty B. Watkins Seed Library! The Betty B. Watkins Seed Library is a resource provided by the library and museum for Oconee residents to obtain garden seeds for free. Providing a seed library to the community of Oconee County allows information sharing, culture sharing, food diversity, money saving, seed preservation and sustainability, plus the ability to just try something new.
Donations made in memory of Betty B. Watkins to the library are being used to fund the seed library. Mrs. Watkins was an avid gardener and a founding member of the Lazy Daisy Garden Club.
Seed Libraries will be available at both the Westminster Branch, located at 112 W. North Avenue in Westminster, and at the Oconee History Museum located at 123 Browns Square Dr. in Walhalla. Residents can select up to 10 free packs of seeds. Each pack contains enough seeds to grow 3 to 5 plants. There is a wide variety of late summer and fall seeds available including lettuce, peppers, herbs, flowers, and much more. There are even container friendly seeds that can be grown indoors or on a porch.
For more information, contact the Westminster Library at (864) 364-5760 or the Oconee History Museum at (864) 638-2224.
